Man of the Day: Scott McGregor

As it's Australia Day I obviously have to pick an Aussie lad for man of the day, so I have chosen for you the absolute best! I present to you Scott McGregor, my favourite male model (yes, I have one)! I first spotted him in Cleo magazine's Bachelor of the Year competition in 2006, and you can catch him as a model on Channel Nine's Temptation and as a presenting Fox8's Blood, Sweat and Gears. I have just found out, however, that he is dating his Temptation co-model Chelsea Butler. Bubble is burst :(

Kings of Leon take out the number one spot

Kings of Leon have taken out the number one spot in this years Triple J's Hottest 100 with their song Sex on Fire. As MGMT came in at number two, my prediction was right....although I must say its not surprising that I was right, and this was a pretty popular prediction too. You can find the full list at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/popup.htm

Happy Australia Day!

So it's Australia Day and it's greatest tradition, Triple J's Hottest 100 countdown, has already begun. It's only in the 90's but so far some amazing songs have been played, it's going to be a good one. As far as I'm concerned the only excuse not to be listening to this, if you are in Australia, is if you are going to the Big Day Out in Melbourne.

So who will take the top few spots? My money's on Kings of Leon-Sex on Fire for the number one spot and possibly followed by MGMT- Electric Feel....we will see....

Bourjois Volume Clubbing Waterproof Mascara

If you are like me and love always wearing makeup, even to the beach, then this is a mascara you should own. The label claims it is "tested at foam parties" and, while I am generally skeptical about cheap waterproof makeup, this product works well. It goes on nicely and after a swim at the beach and shower afterwards it still managed to stay on. However, be careful to not rub your eyes and smudge it, although this is something that goes for most mascaras.
While I actually got this from England (my cousin, the gorgeous English Beauty Editor, was given it to try and she passed it on to me) I have seen it Kmart for around $20.

Man of the day: Chris Evans

I don't think I need to explain why this hottie makes man of the day. If you need a reason why then I am shaking my head at you.

Look good on a budget

With the recent "economic crisis" issue people are becoming increasingly concerned with saving money. Looking stylish doesnt mean being in debt, or eating toast all week to pay for that dress you just had to have. Here are my top tips for looking good on a budget:
  • Look for classic styles and pieces that will last for a while. These are also what you should spend the most money on. A classic black trenchcoat is an investment, purple high waisted jeans are not.
  • If in doubt choose black or other basic colours that will easily mix and match with your other clothes.
  • Accessories like belts and scarfes are a cheap and easy way to help create new outfits.
  • If you're unsure dont buy it! Only buy items that you love and know you will definitely wear.
  • Buying cheap doesn't mean it should look cheap. A shiny $5 bag that looks like it cost $5 is not a bargain.
  • Choose clothes that fit properly and suit you. Just because you can squeeze into jeans two sizes too small it doesn't mean that you are that size. You will either end up walking around with a huge muffin top or you will notice that you have a huge muffin top and never wear them.
  • Finally and most obviously shop during the sales, even if they are end of season sales- as long as you choose wisely!

Fashion Spotlight: Rodarte

Founded in 2005 by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavey, Rodarte has quickly gained recognition. After an initial collection of ten hand finished pieces, they appeared on the cover of Women's Wear Daily and met with famous Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Since then they have been nominated for and recieved awards in the fashion industry, recently including the 2008 CFDA Swarovski Emerging Womenswear Designer Award and the 2008 Swiss Textiles Award. Below are some beautiful dresses from their new collection. To find out more visit the official website at http://www.rodarte.net/

Man of the day: Clive Owen

Clive Owen makes the man of the day for a number of reasons. Not only does he have a certain rugged appeal but he is also the face of the mens range by my favourite cosmestics company, Lancome, and stars in one of my favouite films, Sin City.

Cocktail: French Martini

So for all of you out there who work 9-5 in the week, and for the rest of us, it's almost time for the weekend and what better way to start it than with a cocktail?! French Martini's are one of my favourite cocktails and they are also pretty easy to make. The French part in the name comes from the key ingredient Chambord, which has been made in France since 1685 from all natural ingredients including black raspberries, vanilla and honey.
To make combine four parts vodka, one part Chambord and five parts of pineapple juice either by shaking or stirring. Serve in a martini glass garnished with a twist of lemon rind and drink up!
